KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT

People who say they’re trying to lose weight and can’t are lying to others and themselves. What they mean is they spend a lot of time thinking about losing weight, but don’t do the actual work of it. There’s no magic anything to losing weight. It’s work. The good news is the more you work at it, the easier it becomes – just like any other type of work. Just like going to a new job; in the beginning it’s tough and you don’t think you can remember all there is to learn. Next thing you know, you’re training new hires how to do it, because the boss thinks you’re that good.

I know I do the thinking about losing weight a lot. I keep talking to myself about those last ten pounds. Then it turns into 15 pounds. Then I avoid the scale because it’s too disrupting to see the truth in front of me on the scale. It can ruin a day.

So for now I’m not weighing myself. I’m using the mirror only – to determine how my fat looks and then how it feels absent looking. If my gut is sticking out, it’s too fat.

“I’m trying”, everybody says. “I’m really trying”. I do the same thing. But when I count the calories at the end of the day, I can’t expect to lose more than an ounce a week. To me that’s too little to matter. So I tell myself I need a plan – another plan. I’m tired of all the plans, so let’s keep it simple.

Steve says, “When I count calories I gain a pound a day”.

I say to Steve, “any other tips?”.

Steve says, “keep your mouth shut”.

In other words don’t eat. The only way you’re going to lose weight is to eat less. The quality of food determines your health, not necessarily your weight.

For instance, an alcohol addicted person can go all day not eating, while they consume alcohol, and at the end of the day have one small meal before bed when they’ve stopped drinking for the day/night. They’re usually thin, but they’re usually not healthy either.

So, as Steve says, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.
