SMOKY CRANBERRY ORANGE GRAVY fat free
If you’re looking for something different and familiar this is it! Plus you combine the cranberry and gravy into one dish, saving time and money. Did I mention how off-the-planet exciting cranberries can be when you recognize their potential? They’re just waiting to be explored!
Makes 3 cups
14 oz. can jellied cranberry sauce
14 oz. can whole cranberries
2 t. liquid smoke
1/2 t. ground allspice
1 t. poultry seasoning
grated zest and juice from 1 orange – strain the juice
1/4 c. prepared yellow mustard
1 t. garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in large saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring to melt the jellied cranberry sauce till smooth as possible.
Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring as needed.
Use now or when cool enough, pack in covered container and refrigerate till ready to use.
Notes: I can eat this gravy plain. You’ll find yourself sneaking a spoonful every time you walk by the kitchen, so maybe it’s best to keep it away from easy access till you need to reheat and serve. Over mashed potatoes, yams and/or stuffing is how I like it. Veggie roasts, all kinds of plant meats too.
It takes a while to melt the mustard into the sauce; keep stirring; it will melt.
The longer it sets in the refrigerator, the better it gets. Though it in no way needs time to rest.
